When it comes to brands making content, I think there are two camps: those who do the expected and those with a vision.
The brands that do the expected create some decent list articles, throw in some "how-tos," and have the expected results: they'll rank for some keywords, score a handful of social shares, and be satisfied with a modest email newsletter. But they won't be remarkable.
Then there are those with a vision. They want to build a unique voice, perspective, and loyal audience. So they approach things differently. They treat their content like its own product—something that is so good it could be entirely self-sufficient beyond the brand itself. And they're left with something far more valuable and sustainable as a result—the trust of a dedicated audience.
